The Cancer Wellness Center Project

As Chairperson for the BWFC Cancer Wellness Center Committee, Vicki Turner extended a special invitation for BWFC members to better understand the difference the Cancer Wellness Center will make in this community.  The invitation offered members a full day of festivities on Thursday April 1st, including a tour of the Atlanta Piedmont Cancer Wellness Center and the construction site for the new Fayetteville Cancer Wellness Center facility.

The tour offered participants the opportunity to experience what the new Fayetteville facility will look like once completed in June 2010 and a firsthand understanding of what the facitlity’s program will be doing by observing it in action at the Atlanta facility.

Piedmont Fayette Hospital will open the new Cancer Center in June 2010.  The Piedmont Fayette Hospital comprehensive cancer center will streamline treatment for cancer patients by providing access to diagnosis and treatment options to meet their needs through the journey.  A full array of services will be offered including a Linnear Accelerator for image-guided radiation therapy, low-dose brachytherapy including prostate seed implants, the Varian RapidArc which delivers the world’s fastest and most accurate external beam treatments, and the boutique for wigs, breast prostheses and garments.

Complementing outstanding clinical services, Piedmont Fayette Cancer Center focus will be on wellness.  This focus allows patients and families to cope with cancer in a supportive environment designed to promote healing, reflection, learning and living a quality of life as a cancer survivor.  Programs will include nutrition counseling and cooking demonstrations, movement and gentle exercise classes, support groups, art and music programs, a cancer resource reading room, and spiritual support.  All services are free of charge and available to anyone affected by cancer in the surrounding community.  Services are free even for those individuals seeking cancer treatment at other facilities.  Cancer Wellness services are provided through contributions to Piedmont Fayette Cancer Center.

The Business Women have chosen to be part of this great focus on wellness and by supporting the Women’s Cancer Support Group. Women deal with many questions, concerns, and fears related to their cancer and this is a way we can really help out someone. We will be raising fund for an expert with great knowledge in the field of Cancer wellness to guide the Support Group and help family members to deal with this horrible disease.
