FEATURED SPEAKER

Join us for our next bi-monthly meeting  August 28.

We are honored to have Debbie Britt. In 2007, Debbie Britt was named Executive Director for Fayette Senior Services, Inc. (FSS), a non-profit organization that is Fayette County’s leading provider of programs that support and improve the emotional, social, and physical well-being of older adults.  She has been instrumental in transforming the organization from a small, social service provider to a dynamic and well-respected leader in the non-profit/aging service arena.  In early 2011 she was promoted to the position of President and Chief Executive Officer. During her tenure at FSS, annual revenue grew by 180% and membership at FSS’s vibrant Life Enrichment Center for active older adults (Fayetteville and Peachtree City) has grown more than 5,000% over the last five years.

After attending Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University, Debbie’s early career began in the field of advertising and public relations working for McCann-Erickson Worldwide and subsequently J. P. Stevens & Co. The majority of her 30-year professional career was spent with Porex Corporation, a global subsidiary of WebMD Health Corp., where she held the position of Vice President of Corporate Communications. Prior to joining Fayette Senior Services, she served on FSS’s Board of Directors for four years during which time she owned Britt Ideas, her own successful marketing and business development consultancy.

AUGUST 2011 MEETING

FEATURED SPEAKER

Join us for our next bi-monthly meeting  August 23.

We are honored to have Vanessa Mottley.  Venessa has worked in the non-profit domestic violence field for the last eleven years. She started out as Training Program Director for a 12 month residential program for women with life-controlling issues. She went on to become Shelter Director for a non-profit women’s shelter and was in that position for 3 years.

In 2003, Vanessa obtained a position with Fayette County Council on Domestic Violence d/b/a Promise Place as their project coordinator – helping to expand services currently being provided by the agency to new areas and so helping grow the program as a whole. With the opening of the domestic violence shelter in 2007 Vanessa took on the position as Shelter Director, assisting in putting together the framework for services provided at the shelter while also providing assistance to the Executive Director.

In 2007, Vanessa  became chair of the Griffin Judicial Circuit Domestic Violence Task Force which works alongside other agencies to provide domestic violence awareness as well as hold batterers accountable throughout the circuit.

One in ten female employees are currently experiencing domestic violence. One-fifth of current domestic violence victims said that they were experiencing some abuse while at work. Vanessa will offer the BWFC audience a greater understanding of domestic violence and its impact on the lives of coworkers. Our businesses will receive local resources to trained domestic violence advocates as well as receive information on how to create a workplace that is safe and responsive to victims of domestic violence through policies and protocols.

Taking steps to offer resources to victims and education to employees and management can reduce a company’s liability and losses, and improve the quality of life of its primary resource: people. The consequences of domestic violence can affect anyone and/or everyone. Promise Place hopes to have the opportunity to promote safety in the workplace.

Vanessa is now serving as Executive Director for Promise Place. Vanessa is a member of the Georgia Coalition Against Domestic Violence and the Governor’s Office on Family and Children Domestic Violence Advisory Board.

DECEMBER 2010 MEETING

FEATURED SPEAKER

To round out 2010, we had an incredible bi-monthly meeting at Maguire’s.  We had a fairly small crowd due to the holidays, but it is amazing what magic happens at our meetings. In addition to all of the good information that we shared about the organization and our last cause, O Christmas Tea, we had the pleasure and honor of having Rachel Smartt, from Smartt Nutrition, speak.  Rachel shared her story and why she does what she does.  It was truly inspiring and informative.  We are so blessed to have such passionate and educated women in our midst.

Rachel Smartt

Rachel’s philosophy on life is about creating better moments and a better quality of life. “When you become who you were meant to be, you’re able to have moments where time stops. That’s when you connect with your children, laugh with your friends, commune with God and nature. These time stoppers are what makes life matter,” said Rachel Smartt. “Your health is the most valuable thing you have.”

Michelle

AUGUST 2010 MEETING

FEATURED SPEAKER

Join us for our next bi-monthly meeting which is right around the corner August 24.

We are honored to have Michelle Blose, Senior Community Manager of the American Cancer Society as our guest speaker.

Michelle believes this evening’s presentation is important for several reasons.  First, the Business Women of Fayette & Coweta supports the Barons’ Ball each year financially and its members should understand how the funds are making a difference in our community.  Second, we are fortunate to have an American Cancer Society office in our area that includes a wig room and other services.  By spreading the word about ACS services, we can help more people during their cancer journey

Ms. Blose presentation will include:

  1. The mission of the American Cancer Society
  2. The  programs and services offered by ACS in Coweta & Fayette counties
  3. Their support for Caregivers
  4. Events in Coweta & Fayette County

Michelle Blose began her non-profit career at the Share Foundation in Indiana and after two years, Michelle moved on to Junior Achievement of Chicago where she managed fundraising events.  After relocating to the Atlanta area in 2006 with her husband, Michelle began working at the American Cancer Society where she managed Relay for Life events and coordinated patient service programs in surrounding counties.  After being promoted to Senior Community Manager in 2008, Michelle now manages the Peachtree City office and works with volunteers to plan the annual Cattle Barons’ Ball.

Please plan on joining us for a very special evening.
